How can 30 minutes a day of Zen-based meditation change your life?
Weekly Friday Evenings 7:30 to 9:00 pm 20 September to 8 November 2024 The Yoga Space, Liskeard
Craig became a yoga, meditation and mindfulness teacher under Daizan Skinner, the first Englishman to become a Roshi or Zen Master in the Rinzai school of Zen. Daizan has carefully developed this course based on his years of practice and body/mind insights.
Whether you are a complete beginner to meditation or someone who has studied previously but wants to embed more deeply the zen traditions of meditation in your life, this course shows you how to reduce stress and emotional pain, improve your focus and concentration, and find a gateway to a more enlightened way of being
Zen has a long and distinguished history of teaching meditation and mindfulness as a way of boosting health and well-being as well as awakening to our true nature.
Traditionally this is called bompu Zen (literally “usual zen”) This style of meditation and mindfulness is aimed at those looking for things like stress reduction, better sleep or how to deal with pain, and has no particular philosophical or religious content.
The course consists of eight one-and-a-half-hour sessions, in person and online via Zoom in a small group. If you are unable to attend any of the sessions, they will be recorded so that you can 'catch up' in your own time. Sessions will begin at 0730 pm each week.
The cost is £120 in person or £100 online which includes access to web-based recordings of all the main meditation practices during and after the course, a course manual (delivered electronically) and a certificate of completion.
Here's the course outline:
Week 1 Orientation - an introduction to the practice
Week 2 Stress - Coping techniques
Week 3 Dealing with physical pain
Week 4 Emotional stress, anxiety and depression
Week 5 Role stress and time pressure
Week 6 Taking care of yourself
Week 7 Increasing your peak performance in areas of your life
Week 8 Changing your life - building a sustainable practice
Your commitment is 25 minutes of daily meditation practice for the 8 weeks.
The meditation and mindfulness techniques that will be covered include:
Body Scan
Counting the breath
